In this case, both GM and Honda have the opportunity to partner together to share other relevant EV technologies, platforms, and systems. These two new Honda EV SUVs are critical to the company’s future in America especially as California plans to ban sales of new combustion vehicles by 2035.
If you look at the current state of Honda, which does not have a pure battery-electric but promises to soon launch one or two more hybrid versions of existing models such as the Accord and CR-V.
Honda is working towards its goal of being carbon neutral by 2050 and remains fully aware that President Biden’s administration is focused on zero emissions, in contrast to previous administrations whose policies were aimed at reducing emissions.
In this golden opportunity, Honda’s cooperation with GM is really profitable. Not only direct access to the EV platform and batteries, Honda also got OnStar, General’s subscription-based communication platform, which provides services such as roadside emergency assistance. It also features turn-by-turn navigation and hands-free calling.
